For years I used a 33 lb Bruce on my 31 foot sailboat.  Late last year we changed to a  32 foot 15000 pound trawler.
With my Bruce I had at times to set and re-set in order to get a good hold.  As a result, I got into habit of powering back to set the anchor to have set quickly or not.
The trawler came with the knock off version of the Bruce.  I dumped the knock off plow as I did not care for its construction. I then bought a Rocna 33.

Hello, my name is Denis Dicks. I am an SSCA member and have been for a number of years (I can't remember how many). We cruise aboard our Liberty 458, Bobulona. When we departed from Seattle in Aug 2002, we had a Simpson Lawrence Claw as our primary anchor and 400 feet of 5/16 HT chain as our rode. After spending several months in California and a year in Mexico, we crossed the pond following the coconut milk run to New Zealand.

Bellaroo's Rocna anchor is probably one of the best additions to her inventory. Although rather pricey, the security when she's dug-in is worth every penny... The stock anchor mount was perfect for a small Bruce anchor, but the design was tested with less than acceptable results in the soft Florida sand.

We arrive at Galaxhidi, on the Gulf of Corinth, after an excellent sail that included an hour under spinnaker. Into the little port and go stern-to, only to find the new wall so high that our passerelle forms an angle of nearly 45 degrees, far too steep to walk up or down.

While sailing throughout the Caribbean area, UK, Spain and Portugal, we have anchored in various terrains and never experienced any problems. As Rocna states, it is “Rock Solid”; in sand, soft substrate, coral sand, in grass and kelp. Even in a rocky bottom with 40cm sand substrate. In clay, it was difficult to hoist the anchor but we experienced 45 knots wind, in 5 meters with 35m chain 8mm out with no problem.
